The WSOP circuit will have a big change this year as the tournament officials have announced that there will be an additional stop to the 2010-2011 circuit schedule. The State of Oklamoha, particularly the Choctaw Casino and Resort in Durant, will be the newest stop for the circuit, and the first property not owned by Harrah’s to be included in the said circuit.
A New Stop
If you’ve been following the WSOP, then you probably know that all its stops are on Harrah’s Casinos. Whether that’s a business move or if it’s simply because the officials trust no casinos other than own, we don’t exactly know. But probably, it’s a combination of both. Either way, this is no longer the case as Harrah’s has now decided to hold a WSOP event at the Choctaw Casino Resort in Oklahoma. There will be ten ring events as well as 54 tournaments. Apparently, the location of Choctaw Casino – which is close to the cities of Dallas, Fort Worth, Tulsa, and, of course, Oklahoma – was deemed very advantageous by Harrah’s, enough to make the said casino its 13th stop.
There are so many avid poker players in Texas so a WSOP stop there is sure to draw big crowds. Steven Loyd, the director of Gaming and Hotel Operations of Choctaw Resort, has reiterated this fact, saying that their location puts them ‘within easy striking distance of thousands of serious poker enthusiasts’. He also said that their new facility is ‘poker friendly’, and that their poker room is top of the line, the tournament area spacious and with great food and lodging. His remark was no exaggeration either, as one look at the newly refurbished poker lounge with 30 new tables and its very own designated floor at the casino is certain to turn heads.
A New Trend
The event will be held in January, and the organizers believe that it will be highly successful. But Oklahoma will not be the new stop. There’s going to be another one, rumored to be in Florida where the gaming laws have just recently turned favorable to the poker industry. The WPT has already announced that they will be organizing a stop at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood and also the one in Tampa. The WSOP would do well in following suit. Certainly, these changes would truly expand the scope of these major tournaments and possibly bring about great developments in the industry. Remember to head over to WSOP Poker to qualify for these events and the WSOP main event.
