Ten times world title holder is considered the best pound for pound boxer in the world, having won titles in eight different weight divisions ranging from Flyweight to Welterweight. A deal that was just sealed last and the Asian Poker Tour has just announced a new APT recognized event named after the boxer appropriately named the “Manny Pacquiao World Poker Event”. The event will last from December 7 up to 12 in the Philippines.
About Pacquiao
Manny is without a doubt the best boxer in the world without any real opponents left to fight him, maybe except maybe for Floyd Mayweather who has tons of ‘reasons’ why he can’t face Manny in a fight. Manny is a well accomplished boxer having won different titles in eight different divisions in total. Manny is not only just a world class boxer, he is also a politician back in the Philippines with a seat in the congress. In the Philippines, Manny is indeed one of the most respected people around and it’s hard to find another that would be as recognized as Manny is. Of course, as much as he is famous, Manny likes playing poker. Unlike other countries where gambling is deemed immoral, in the Philippines, gambling is not exactly the most critical issue. Also, considering that Manny’s accomplishment has brought jobs, money and pride over to the Philippines, there’s not a reason to condemn him for playing poker.
Manny Pacquiao World Poker Event
Over the course of this year, Manny has been seen in a number of poker venues around the globe. Manny was seen playing at the Commerce Casino in Los Angeles for one, before his big fight against Shane Mosley, playing a $100/$200 no limit hold’em. Manny Pacquiao has also had the chance to play against a number of prominent players including Justin Smith and Roland de Wolfe. Now, a World Poker Event will be named after him, which will be held at the Pan Pacific Hotel’s Asia Poker Sports Club in Malate, Philippines. The tournaments included in the world event include a PHP 500k High Rollers buy in, which is close to $11,578. Asian Poker Tour Tournament Director Lloyd Fontillas stated that: “The APT is obvious proud to be ensuring its popular and trusted protocol is followed at the Manny Pacquiao World Poker Event. I’m sure it will be a pleasure working with such a respected personality as Manny and we’re looking forward to seeing a large turnout come December 7.”
