They always say that two heads are better than one, perhaps this is the case too with online casinos. The Universal Poker Network (UPN) and the Everleaf Gaming Network certainly seem to think so as they have just joined forces in order to create larger and, hopefully, more successful network. The merge was finalized last January 19, though a name has yet to be chosen for the new network.
How did the Merge Go?
The reason behind the merge and how it will turn out could be deduced by analyzing some information, courtesy of PokerScout. As you may know, PokerScout is the best source of info about the online poker industry. They’ve been tracking UPN way back since October. UPN apparently had 60 to 70 cash game players. Everleaf fared slightly better with 100 cash game players. However, just before the merge, UPN’s number of cash players increased dramatically to 300. Everleaf, on the other hand, lost about 20 and had only 70-80 cash players left. Based from these figures and also from the fact that the new network will have Victory Poker, people are speculating that the new network might gain up to 600 cash players at one point – a traffic that’s similar to Betfair’s. Furthermore, UPN was a network exclusive to Europeans and used Euros. Everleaf, on the other hand, catered to Americans and used USD. Now, the combined network will accept all players, which will no doubt increase its traffic. This new multi-currency system prompted the creation of a new cashier and the adoption of some new deposit methods for the said site.
Yay or Nay?
This merger was certainly a good idea, considering the improvements that will be made to the site. The multi-currency system isn’t the only update. They will also add table filters, new avatar uploads, and an auto-reload option at the cash tables. They also hosted a $1000 freeroll last January 23 to celebrate the merger. The only gripe some people had about this merger was that no emails were sent to inform the players about it. As such, many players, especially those who don’t play regularly, were quite confused. In defense, the network said that they sent out pop up notices on their poker rooms for the last seven days so that everyone would be informed. The network is now up and running, sans a few minor kinks. So if you want to try it out, now would be the best time to do it.
