Poker players who manage to find a good network to sponsor them can usually breathe a sigh of relief. No matter what happens from then on, they can’t go completely broke. Of course, you’ll have to be really good if you want to become a sponsored poker pro and even then, there’s always an expiration date for contracts and what not. UB, one of the biggest poker sites on the net, has a pretty impressive roster of poker pros. However, it seems as if they have recently decided to let some pros go.
UB.com’s Pros
UB.com has always been lauded for its great collection of sponsored poker pros. Over the years, it has grown from a small site to one of the biggest, going through several rough patches before finally emerging into what it is today. Some of its most famous pros include Joe Sebok, whose squeaky clean good guy reputation has truly helped the site regain its popularity after a particularly horrifying scandal. Then there’s Phil Hellmuth who, despite his tendency to mouth off at other players, is actually one of the best players out there and has won the most number of bracelets of all time. They also have Annie Duke, Tiffany Michelle, and much more.
A Cut
However, It seems as if UB is going to let go of some of their poker pros, namely Matt “mattg1983” Graham, Billy “Patrolman35” Kopp, and Michael Binger.
UB hasn’t released an official statement over it, but they don’t really need to, though there are probably several different reasons. Matt Graham, for one, only has a one year contract with UB. With the conclusion of that one year, Graham has decided to pursue his other interests and to take a bit of a break from poker. This might be a big loss for UB, considering that Graham has a pretty impressive portfolio as a pro. He already has two WSOP bracelets under his name. He is also a very talented online poker player.
Billy Kopp, on the other hand, has been experiencing a pretty unlucky run so far. His 12th place finish at the 2009 WSOP Main Event got him a pretty good deal, but now it seems as if his contract has expired. Without any impressive achievements for 2010, UB seems to have decided to let him go.
Finally, there’s Michael Binger, who finished third at WSOP 2006. His career is pretty good as he’s a Deep Stacks University instructor as well as a UB Pro. UB let him go this year, but it’s pretty likely that he’ll still have a stellar career even so.
