Tyron Krost Wins the 2010 Aussie Millions Main Event

Australia must be celebrating right now as it’s the second year in a row that they’ve managed to keep the Aussie Millions Title within their territory. This time, their hero was 23 year old Tyron Krost. For five days, he kept up the pace and blazed straight through the top spot, taking on a field of 746 players and earning himself the title and the $2 million AUD first-place prize.

The Final Table

The atmosphere at the final day of the Aussie Millions main event was positively charged with excitement as the eight players went back to battle it out for the title. Going into the final table, it was Sorel Mizzi who held the top spot, having about 40% of all the chips in play. Tyron Krost, Peter Jetten, Annette Obrestad, Steve Friedlander, Frederik Jensen, Kosta Varoxis, and Stephen Shelly were the others who were included in the final 8. When the play started, it wasn’t long before the first elimination was made. Stephen Shelly was eliminated by Tyron Krost. It wasn’t a big loss, however, as Shelly was able to enter the tournament through a $22 satellite and was able to go home with $125,000. Annette Obrestad, one of the most formidable players there, was the next to go when she lost to Krost, finishing in 7th place. Next up was Steve Friedlander who was eliminated by Varoxis. After that, Krost struck again, effectively eliminating Jetten. Varoxis was the next one to go, having clashed with Frederik Jensen. Sorel Mizzi had started out with a great lead, but the day simply didn’t go well for him. He had to go home at third place after his pocket sevens fell to Krost’s pocket kings. Finally, it was time for the heads-up match between Jensen and Krost.

Heads-up Match

Krost, by then, had gathered quite a number of chips. He was the one who eliminated most of the competition in the final table, so he had quite an edge over Frederik Jensen. Jensen, however, fought admirably but he eventually lost to Krost when Krost had cards that were better than his by a hair’s breadth. Jensen had KD6S and Krost had KS9D. The flop revealed another King, which allowed them both to pair their Kings. However, ultimately, it was Krost who took home the money because he was the one with the higher kicker. Jensen eventually went home with $1,100,000 AUD, effectively making Krost the new Aussie Millions Champion as well as the winner of a whopping $2,000,000.
