The Wynn Las Vegas Casino has recently accused a couple of poker professionals, Leo Fernandez and Veronica Dabul of cheating in their games of craps.
Accused of Sliding
Fernandez, who is a member of Team Poker Stars, and Dabul, former member of Team Poker Stars apparently made use of what is known as “sliding” or “scooting”. The thing about it is that the players’ odds of winning are increased since the player will throw the dice in a sliding manner, manipulating it in a way. Through this, the shooter will have better chances of getting the right result, for example, the shooter will be able to produce desirable results from his spin. If the player is able to do this during his rolls, he will be able to shift the odds into his favor and win some extra cash every now and then.
The Wynn Las Vegas Casino accuses the two poker professionals of using the sliding manner of rolling and that the two players have been making use of that style of playing craps during one month of their gaming. Wynn Las Vegas Casino then had the duo arrested right after the two poker players’ winning spree of a good $145,000. Veronica Danul was then held in the Clark County Detention center for a couple of days where she was interrogated, and her fate may result to her being deported back to Argentina, her homeland. Fernandez’ fate on the other hand is yet to be determined.
Casino’s Failure to Call the Rolls
Of course, the people in the poker community as well as those in the casino community have a number of concerns. First, is that although the sliding technique indeed does shift the odds over to the player’s favor, it’s pretty hard for a player, even through the use of the sliding method, to make so much money. Even the Nevada Gaming Control Board believes that it is unusual for the method to result to massive winnings. Another thing is that sliding is not at all that very hard to spot. What bothers other players is that if the poker duo indeed made huge winnings using the sliding technique, it’s highly unusual that the casino’s croupiers do not notice their unusual rolling method, wherein the croupiers could have just called it a ‘no roll’, which means that the roll is invalid. The thing is, that there were none of these ‘no roll’ calls which could have proven that the duo did indeed use the sliding method in their rolls.
