Sorel “Imper1um” Mizzi has always had a penchant for getting himself involved in sticky situations. The most recent one is about a cheating scandal, particularly one where he and a couple of accomplices apparently tried to rig multi-table tournaments.
It always starts with TwoPlusTwo
If the online poker world was an African Safari, then the TwoPlusTwo forums would no doubt be the watering hole where its denizens would get together and share the latest gossip. Last weekend, the forums once again came alive with rumors about a cheating scandal involving Sorel Mizzi. The first one somehow violated forum rules and was thus removed by the mods. But the second one managed to survive and quickly became viral, gathering more than 500 posts in just a short time.
The reason why the thread went viral so quickly was because it contained a transcript of an IM chat between Mizzi and a co-conspirator, Steve “thorladen” Weinstein. Apparently, these two were discussing players who owed money from backing arrangements, and Mizzi was listing ways on how to violate the Terms and Conditions of certain sites with the use of a common business tool, particularly a PC access program which allows them to access different computers from remote locations. Basically, the program would allow them to use a computer despite not being physically there to use it. Mizzi states that the use of such a program in poker would revolutionize teaching/ghosting and multi-accounting.
Weinstein replied that he was interested but that he needs to know the details because of the dangers of getting busted.
The co-conspirators
From there, several names were listed as possible co-conspirators in the crime. Chris “cdbr” Dombrowski was one, along with Aditya “Intervention” Agarwal. The two went on to discuss further uses for the program. The IM transcript was certainly questionable, as it was undated, but many believe that it wasn’t just fabricated. Those named in the transcript, though, were quick to defend themselves. Weinstein, in particular, said that he was cooperating with Full Tilt on investigations about the said matter. Agarwal also defended himself and so has Mizzi, who said that he was apparently approached by an extortionist back in 2009. Mizzi is annoyed by the slander against his character, but then his record doesn’t exactly bode well for him, especially since he has been suspended several times before for violations of the rules in both PokerStars and Full Tilt.
