The poker industry is a dog eat dog world where almost everyone you meet is after your money — of course, it’s all in good fun, but that doesn’t change the fact that when you play together, one of you will be losing his or her cash. That’s why it’s a wonder why people still manage to stay friends in this industry. How much more if they become lovers? Well, apparently, poker’s harsh nature has done nothing to stop Scott Montgomery and Annette Obrestad from getting cozy with each other and becoming a couple. A series of updates from the social networking site, Facebook, has caused people to speculate about the couple’s relationship, only to have it confirmed later on.

Poker’s Power Couple

Individually, both Obrestad and Montgomery have experienced great success in the felt. Anette Obrestad, as you probably well know, has been making waves since she was a minor, with more than $3 million in career earnings, and a record of being the youngest poker player to win a bracelet at the WSOPE, at the main event, no less. Montgomery is a bracelet owner himself, having won one from the $1,000 No Limit Hold’em Event at the WSOP this year. He has more than $4 million in earnings and he looks like he’s looking forward to a great career.

Take these two power players together and you certainly have a power couple. They’re probably not as famous as the Laak/Tilly pairing, but if they manage to stick together and continue to play wonderfully, who knows, they might just get there.

How did they know?

By this time, you’re probably wondering how exactly people found out about this issue. Well, as with most other pieces of gossip that circulate today’s world, news about the two’s relationship was first discovered in Facebook. Montgomery posted “Getting ready to celebrate my gf’s birthday. Hope she likes my gift!” Of course, since Montgomery still had his relationship status set to ‘single’, this little post got tongues wagging at the TwoPlusTwo forums. One player there posted a picture of Obrestad and Montgomery getting comfortable on a couch at a casino. Their speculation was all for naught, though, since Montgomery was quick to clarify the issue by changing his relationship status to ‘in a relationship with Anette Obrestad’.

Both players, however, are pretty much keeping mum about the whole issue, preferring to keep their private lives private.
