Here’s a great opportunity to help out and have fun at the same time; “Raise your Hand for Africa” is going to be held this February 18 to 19 at the Golden Nugget Casino. Phil Hellmuth, famous, or infamous, poker pro and holder of the WSOP bracelet record, is going to be hosting the charity poker tournament along with two professional football players.
Raise your Hand for Africa
It’s always great when the poker industry rallies up and shows their support for a good cause; and Africa, it just so happens, is always a good cause. This region of the world really needs all the help it can get. So when charity tournaments become reality like this, we’ve got to thank our lucky stars that there are still people out there who care. What’s even better is that this tournament actually gives people the chance to get together and enjoy themselves with the greatest card game on earth, all while helping the unfortunate. Hellmuth, who seems to be putting a lot effort into creating a Disney Hero reputation in the poker industry at the rate he’s been going lately, is going to be one of those who will host the program, along with Adrian Peterson and Larry Fitzgerald, both professional football players. The tournament will be a very high-profile event, complete with a snazzy red carpet and VIP reception.
The Celebs
Of course, some of poker’s best will be attending the tournament to lend their support to the noble cause. Annie Duke and Don Cheadle, founders of Ante Up for Africa, will also be attending this one. NFL players will also be in attendance. Celebs will be there too, namely Steve Martin, Jordin Sparks, and more. Of course, to get into this VIP event, there’s a rather big donation that has to be made. A $2,000 donation, for example, will give two passes to the VIP reception which will be held the night before the tournament. It will also entail one seat at the tournament itself and another two passes for the post-tournament party.
There are still other amounts for donation so you might want to check their website out for details. If you want to help but don’t have much money to show, you can still show your support by buying spectator passes which are worth $25. Proceeds of this charity tournament will go to the children of Africa
