PokerStars Welcomes 15 New Online Pros to the Team

One of the pinnacles of a poker player’s career is to get signed by a big poker room. Recently, 15 lucky players just reached that pinnacle, having been signed by PokerStars as an Online Poker pro. The new inductees to the team come from 11 different countries and were handpicked from more than 4,500 hopefuls.

Team Online?

PokerStars is the biggest online poker site in the world. As such, a great percentage of the most talented players hang out there. Every year, PokerStars pays tribute to them by selecting some of them for the “PokerStars Team Online”, a group of elite online players who get to enjoy special perks from PokerStars. Of course, there’s also the prestige of getting to represent the biggest poker site in the world, but I’d say that takes a back seat compared to the perks. Anyway, to get into this elite list, players have to sign up and submit their applications. PokerStars will then sift through that list and decide who the most deserving players are. Diversity is a big deal here, and PokerStars chooses the pros in such a way that all the versions of the game are represented. The first batch of pros was signed in 2009, where 23 people, 20 males and 3 females, were chosen from more than 2,000 applications.

This year, more than 4,500 sent their applications in, all hoping to be the ones to represent the said site. Only 15, however, were selected.

The New Members

The fifteen new members include Shane “shaniac” Schleger, Mer “PeachyMer” Brit, Clayon “cnew27” Newman, Kwang Soo Lee “Pis.ToTo”, Yu-Reng Peng “AmPHisbaenA”, Jorge “Baalim” Limon, Andrew “foucault82” Brokos, Kevin “WizardOfAhhs” Thurman, Freddy “sirfreddy83” Torres, Richard “Tzen1” Veenman, Sigge “ClarkKent89” Reichard, Javier “El Canonero” Dominguez, Mikhail “innerpsy” Shalamov, Tyler “frosty012” Frost, and last but not least, Dale “Daleroxxu” Philip. A lot of these players have a very good standing in the online poker community. Newman, for example, is celebrated in the TwoPlusTwo forums for his deep analysis of the game, same with Brokos.

Brit is a female poker pro who has proved her mettle several times by winning many different online poker tournaments. Limon is a cash game specialist, and Schleger is one of the most talented tournament players, with $2 million worth of earnings from online poker tournaments alone. Indeed, they’ve come a long way, and they all deserve our hearty congratulations for making the list.
