They say that poker players are risk-takers at heart. So, when Phil Laak and his friends went on an ‘Outdoors Extravaganza’ in Orgeon wilderness, it didn’t really come as much of a surprise. However, it did shock people when they heard that Phil Laak had encountered an accident while riding on an ATV or an all-terrain vehicle.
After all the excitement of the WSOP, Phil Laak, along with Antonio Esfandiari, and a group of friends, decided to take a break and explore Oregon’s wild outdoors. They set out on a grand adventure in very high spirits, even posting tweets constantly to update the people about their activities. They went rafting, camping, and many more. However, when they got to driving an ATV or an all-terrain vehicle, things started going awry. Now, ATV’s are pretty fun vehicles, but in the hands of a relatively inexperienced ATV driver, they can get pretty dangerous, even more so when the driver has a tendency to take huge risks.
As it was, Laak and his friends got a little carried away with their fun, and Laak ended up in an accident. This was reported in Laak and Esfandiari’s Twitter accounts. In their own words, they “went a little 2 crazy atv’ing in the doons.” But Laak seems to be okay, sans several lacerations, a swollen face, and a temporary arm cast on his right arm, but he said in his tweet that he’s “lucky to be in one piece”. They posted a picture with him looking pretty beat up and his recovery could take anywhere from weeks to months.
The Details
Of course, details about what actually happened during the incident have been pretty sparse. Laak and Esfandiari are likely to post about them in the near future, though, so you can watch out for that if you’re interested. Speculation abounds as to what happened, but the most likely is that their ATV tipped over or maybe bounced on hard ground. Despite everything, though, Laak has managed to keep his spirits high and is really thankful that nothing worse happened to him. A lot of his friends and fans have already posted their well wishes in Laak’s Twitter account, telling him to ‘get well soon’ and what not.
Even those at the message boards have taken to wishing Laak a swift recovery. Indeed, it will be great if we see this talented pro up and about before the next bout of Poker tournaments.
