One has to wonder if Phil Ivey ever gets tired of winning, after all, he’s already won so much through poker that he must be getting fed up by now, right? Somehow, I doubt it. Not when he just won $600,000 in a cash game against Luukie21 at Full Tilt Poker.
Phil Ivey’s Sensational Win
The last time Phil Ivey’s name graced the headlines was when he won his 8th bracelet at the 2010 WSOP. There was nothing surprising about the fact that he won. This is Phil Ivey we’re talking about after all, he wins – that’s just in his nature. What was outrageous, though, was the fact that he asked his seat mate how much the first prize for that particular event was. Here’s a guy who is no longer impressed by the first place prize of certain events and has to get his game spiced up by the various prop bets he made over the bracelets. The first prize, by the way amounted to a little more than $300,000. To think he played four days for that when he won $600,000 in one sitting at Full Tilt – no wonder he was unexcited about the money back then.
Ivey and Luukie21 were playing at the $500/$1000 Pot Limit Omaha tables, with a $40,000 cap. The session they had amounted to 700 hands in all, remarkable considering the cap they were playing at.
The Leaderboard
That win put Ivey at the top of the leaderboard at Full Tilt for the biggest winners, with Tom ‘durrrr’ Dwan coming close with his $160,000 win. Of course, it was Luukie21 who ended up being the biggest loser because of his huge loss to Phil Ivey, with Urindanger and Gus Hansen trailing him with $202,000 and $74,000 respectively. Indeed, this win just added to Phil Ivey’s already fearsome reputation at the felt. Already, this guy’s considered as the best in the various types of poker. He excels in most anything and is widely believed to be the best poker player of our time. As for the WSOP, he just got his bracelet this year, and it’s certain that he’ll be going for another one next year and the year after that.
Phil Ivey’s a winner, plain and simple. He won’t be getting tired of victory anytime soon, especially after he said that he could go on to have 30 bracelets as long as he keeps playing. Such Is his love for the game.
