The EPT London is heating up pretty nicely this year, having already attracted a record-breaking crowd of 848 players, creating an impressive prize pool of more than £4,000,000. With this much money up for grabs, some of the best pros in the world have come sniffing, Daniel Negreanu and Phil Ivey among them, and it seems as if they’re pretty determined to win too, having secured such lofty spots early on in the tournament.
Pros Piling Up
It seems as if a lot of pros are vying for the title this time, as the leader board of the EPT London has become studded with some of the best pros around. Claudio Cecchi is the chip leader, having amassed 237,000 chips. He’s a relatively successful tournament player, with over $200,000 worth of earnings from the game. This could be his biggest break yet if he holds on to that lead of his. However, sharks are already coming in from every direction. A little lower on the leader board but with huge potential to move up on the ranks is Daniel Negreanu. He is currently in 17th place and has amassed a total of 122,000 chips. Phil Ivey is tailing him with 120,000 chips in 20th place. However, Ivey is just fresh from a deep finish in the WSOPE Main Event, one where everyone got hyped up by his presence only to get their hopes of seeing the Ivey man play at yet another final table foiled when he fell at 19th place.
He seems pretty determined to make up for that disappointment, though, seeing as he’s once again playing his best at the EPT London. He might just wow us yet again with another win, or if not, at least another deep finish. After these two, Joe Hachem’s name on the 34th spot would also be worthy of note. Other pros who have less impressive but still significant spots at the game would be Anette Obrestad, Live Boeree, and several others. Viktor Blom, who like Ivey finished deep in the WSOPE Main Event, did not manage to hold on to his chips this time and was sent home early.
Brits Dominating
If one looks at the trend that the poker industry is going through this year, however, one might notice that the brits are dominating the felt. James Bord won the WSOPE Main Event bracelet for his home town this year, Jake Cody won the WPT London Tournament – at the rate things are going, we’ll probably get a Brit winner this year for the EPT London too!
