Phil “OMGClayAiken” Galfond Passes Gus Hansen as Top Earner of March

Gus Hansen has been tearing up the nosebleed tables recently and has been enjoying the position of Top Dog for quite a while now. However, Phil “OMGClayAiken” Galfond has just passed him by executing one of the most impressive turnarounds in the history of poker.

Phil Galfond is back

Phil Galfond was actually suffering from an ugly, ugly 2011. He was on a downswing of $1.7 million and was actually the biggest loser of February. He was playing 2-7 triple draw, a version of poker that he had wanted to learn. His mistake came in deciding to study the game at the $1,500/$3,000 tables. Still, even if his bankroll was bleeding red, he was not discouraged. He kept on playing and studying and learning, and eventually, he came out with a nice fat profit of $1.9 million. By the end of March, he had a profit of more than $700,000, most of which he got by making a $584,000 profit at Full Tilt against players such as Scott Palmer, Van Marcus, and – get this – Gus Hansen. Indeed, he may have been traversing through a dark road, but it’s obvious that Galfond is back, and he’s as good as he ever was. All his hard work really paid off, and it looks like it’s going to be a positive year after all for good old Galfond.

Winners and Losers

Gus Hansen, of course, is still one of the biggest winners of 2011. He’s still enjoying that streak of good luck that gave him winnings of nearly $1.7 million this March. Among his victims were Scott Palmer, Dan Cates, and NoParasan. Phil Ivey is also winning, but then again, when isn’t he? He’s currently up by $1.1 million this 2011. Dan Cates is also enjoying a good run, now that he’s up by $747,000. He’s losing against other players, but it seems like he’s kryptonite to Tom Dwan as most of those winnings actually came from the Full Tilt pro. As such, Tom Dwan is one of the biggest losers of the month, having lost quite a lot of money in the durrrr Challenge against Dan Cates. He’s joined at the loser bench by his old friend/rival Viktor ‘Isildur1’ Blom, and also Scott ‘URnotINdanger2’ Palmer. Another big loser is ‘kagome kagome’.

He’s down by almost $600,000 this march, a total of $1.6 million this year. If you think you haven’t heard of him before, think again. Kagome kagome is actually IHateJuice. He went on the negative track the moment he changed his username.
