Of all the poker pros in Full Tilt, and maybe even in the rest of the other networks, Patrik Antonius has got to be among the most popular. One very good reason for this is his remarkable ability to make the ladies swoon. As a former tennis player and coach as well as a former model, Patrik has been the favorite of many female poker fans. But more importantly, Patrik is an excellent poker player. He’s at the very top of his game when it comes to high stakes poker games. Recently, he displayed his prowess on the virtual felt by winning big, a whopping $300,000 in just over 600 hands.
While 2009 was an excellent year for Patrik Antonius, with him having over $9 million in profits, 2010 hasn’t exactly been nearly as kind. Three months into the new year and Antonius found himself in there rocks, losing over $3.6 million to the regulars at Full Tilt. Of course, swings like this haven’t entirely been uncommon, even among the most seasoned pros. Tom Dwan, Patrik’s friend and opponent for the durrr Challenge, has had even bigger swings than this. But still, $3.6 million wasn’t really anything to scoff at. As if sensing his decline, Antonius began to step up his game. Soon enough, he was breaking even with his losses, until he managed to overcome them completely. It seems as if 2010 has finally begun to look upon Antonius with fondness as the dough simply keeps rolling in. This most recent win was particularly spectacular, especially since he did not need to log so many hands to win such a huge amount.
The Game, The Ranks
Antonius was playing against Ilari Sahamies and Phil Galfond, along with some other Full Tilt High Stakes regulars, at the $300/$600 Pot Limit Omaha tables when he got his big break. He logged in just over 600 hands and was soon rolling in the dough with a newfound $332,000. This most recent win, along with several others, put him in the standing for possibly being one of the biggest winners for this year. Of course, fellow Full Tilt pros, Tom Dwan and Phil Ivey are still at the very top. It’s going to be pretty hard to catch up to these two, especially since they seem to be in their elements as well. But, if things go on like this for Antonius, he might just have a fighting chance.
