Online poker Shutdown: U.S. may face WTO Action for breaking international Trade Laws.

Though, recent happenings surrounding online Poker shutdown are the most talked about event on the Net. Federal government is still excusing their national interest, anti-gaming laws, and all sorts of other reasons behind their recent action to defend crackdown of offshore poker giants as PokerStars, FullTilt Poker, Absolute Poker, and others. However, there is another lobby steadily building up to take this matter to WTO and make this a matter of international trade laws.

Antigua starts the protest, as its finance minister called this blow down discriminatory and self-centered on this Wednesday. This is not the first time Antigua and Barbuda initiated such efforts against U.S on the pretext of international trade laws. In 2003, United States has made similar allegations on gaming operators based in Antigua and Barbuda. Antigua and Barbuda had no choice left but to take that matter to WTO that eventually held their judgment for Antigua and Barbuda and made that ban as in violation of international trade treaties and later awarded Antigua and Barbuda compensation $21 Million.

Having previous condemned U.S. discriminating anti gambling laws, Antigua and Barbuda supposed to have more consensus this time, as this time, so called U.S. anti gaming laws have widen in their scope to cover the every part of the world. It would be interesting to see the further happenings in this case, if this became the U.S vs. rest of the world issue.

The monsters of online gambling industry: PokerStars, FulTilt poker, and AP also issued a statement and make it clear that they will not accept these allegations as they are. We have not violated any law; we’re providing our gaming services to U.S citizen in good faith. However, the first priority for Poker biggies is to sustain the trust of their existing players because, since Friday, they saw considerable players shifting to other online gaming destinations. SportsBook, a dominating player engaged in online betting business also runs a poker room, and it saw a massive increase in its Poker players. They said in a statement, new players are coming from all around the world, and we’re unable to handle all of them this time. In fact, many other gaming operators have instructed their affiliates and advertisers not to send more players because they already have exceeded the limit.
