Online Poker Heating Up

With most of the live tournament season over and done with and only the November 9 event to wait up for, things in the online poker world have started to heat up. That and the fact that Isildur1’s back with a vengeance and has already made his jump into the high stakes arena by battling with Dan ‘Jungleman12’ Cates just makes the recipe for an exciting second half of the year for the virtual felt.

Isildur1 vs Jungleman12

Isildur1 returned to Full Tilt poker last September 30 but mostly played at the lower stakes. He had a very successful run, having gained $50,000 in the first two days of his foray into the virtual felt. People speculated whether he would be doing a full return to the high stakes and Isildur1’s answer was to play against one of the hottest pros today, Dan ‘Jungleman12’ Cates. They clashed against each other last October 2 at the $100/$200 NLHE. At first it seemed like Isildur1 had the upper hand. The first 700 hands of their game were all his and he attained a pretty nifty lead of $55,000 at the early part of their match. However Cates soon fought back and got a $100,000 lead over him. Isildur1 tried to fight back; he recovered some of his ground but ultimately, Isildur1 lost by a sizeable $97,000.

A good contributor of this outcome was the biggest pot that they had in that session, which amounted to a pretty impressive $93,000. The pot was shipped to Jungleman12 when he managed to call Isildur1’s bluff. Of course, Isildur1 is known for his hyper aggressive style. Cates has proven that he does well against those type of people, if his challenge with Tom Dwan is any indication. So it should come as no surprise that he managed to go well against Isildur1 as well.

The ‘durrrr’ Challenge

Speaking of Tom Dwan, he and Cates sat down for another session of the infamous ‘durrrr’ Challenge. They played only about 582 hands, which is nothing to wow about, really. All that they got from the session was Dwan gaining ground for about $1,400 – a paltry amount that shouldn’t belong to any record book. Indeed, this last session was probably just a bleep in the long line of sessions to come. It may not be very significant but it at least shows that the two pros have not forgotten about the challenge – though the same could not be said about the Dwan vs. Antonius one.
