If anybody ever harps at you for liking a game like poker which is, in its basest form, simply a ruthless type of gambling, then point out the institution called Poker Gives and they will surely stop hounding you. Poker Gives is a fundraising engine that helps foundations for the Paralyzed Veterans of America, the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, the Special Olympics of Nevada, and the Step by Step Foundation. This September will be the National Poker Month which will be hosted by the Poker Gives foundation and card rooms all over the US will be hosting tournaments wherein half of the prizes will be donated to charity and the remaining half to the players.
It’s an excellent opportunity to have fun and help people at the same time.
Perks of the National Poker Month
As of now, there are 25 poker rooms that will be participating in this endeavor, among them are Harrahs’ Tunica, River Rock Casino, Oceans Eleven Casino. All the participating casinos will get featured in Bluff Magazine and, if they’re lucky, they might get picked randomly by the organizers for a special treat. Jan Fisher, Linda Johnson, and Mike Sexton will be visiting the lucky card rooms and there will be a free poker seminar as well as a meet-and-greet. The winners of the tournament as well as the manager of the participating card room will also be given treats.
Their names will be collected and some of them will be randomly picked on October 4th for some awesome prizes, just a few examples of which include two tickets to the WPT Invitational at the Commerce Casino, a WPT Boot Camp Seat, poker lessons with Sexton and Johnson, and a Card Player Cruises Vacation. It’s not going to be solely for brick-and-mortar casinos either. There’s going to be an online event on September 19th courtesy of Full Tilt and Poker Nations.
At what cost?
Of course, at this point, you’re probably thinking: how much do we need to pay to get first dibs on those prizes? Well, it actually differs from event to event. Buy-ins can range from $20 to $225. The online event, in particular, is worth $20. Half of the proceeds will go to charity while the other half will go to the winners.
They’re still accepting new card rooms which are willing to participate in the event, so there’s a big chance that the list of participating casinos will join. Who knows, the one nearest you might host an event. It could be your chance to make it big.
