Recently, there has been much publicity surrounding the increased interaction between the world of poker and the world of mixed martial arts, courtesy of the UFC. This time, these two very different worlds are once again going to meet through the popular poker show, Poker After Dark. UFC announcer, Bruce Buffer, as well as two of the greatest MMA fighters in the world are going head to head with some of the biggest poker pros in the industry.
Literally Powerful
NBC’s Poker after Dark has always been rather popular because it provides the viewers with an intimate peek at how the pros act when they’re around each other, specifically when they’re playing at the felt. Unlike other poker shows, Poker After Dark keeps the commentating to a minimum, so you really do get to hear what the pros talk about while they play. There are several regulars in the show, but occasionally, they let in some guest players to spice things up. For this week’s show, the guests will be the UFC announcer, Bruce Buffer. He will be accompanied by Randy Couture and Dan Henderson, two of the best MMA fighters to ever grace the arena. Now, these three will be going to a different arena, one where aggression is key, but not in the way they’re used to.
Although, to be fair, Bruce Buffer has quite a lot of experience and has even made it to several final tables in different poker tournaments. As for Randy Couture and Dan Henderson – well, suffice it to say that the very thought of bluffing to them would be rather intimidating. Couture is known as “The Natural” among MMA enthusiasts and has won multiple light-weight and heavy-weight championships throughout his career. He also appeared in the recent blockbuster, “The Expendables”, where he faced off against Stallone. Dan Henderson, on the other hand, was once a wrestler who fought in the Olympics. He simultaneously holds championships in two different weight divisions, something that only he has been able to achieve.
The Poker Pros
You’ve got to be glad that it’s not Phil Hellmuth or Mike Matusow facing off against these seasoned MMA fighters, else we might just get more entertainment than we’re prepared for. This week, the pros who will be joining Poker After Dark are Patrik Antonius, Howard Lederer, and Erik Lindgren. All three are incredibly talented and will no doubt be very tough to beat. There is a $120,000 prize waiting for the winner too so you can expect a pretty hot competition.
