A-Rod has been in trouble for months now because of all the controversy surrounding him and his apparent involvement with the high stakes poker games that also got other high profile celebrities. The difference is that while others have not gotten in much trouble with the industry’s ruling bodies over their involvement, A-Rod has faced possible suspension. Of course, those are only rumors, and it’s highly unlikely that it’s going to be as severe as they say.
About the Meeting
Alex Rodriguez is, without a doubt, one of the most talented players that the MLB has. As such, it’s highly unlikely that they’ll be booting him out of the game just because he played poker. Still, his fans have been pretty concerned about the issue and it’s really for the best that A-Rod has met up with the MLB to hash the matter out.
A-Rod said in an interview that the league merely asked him questions and he answered them. “I’ll let them review it, chew on it and then come back to us. And that’s it.” A-Rod himself is not expecting to be punished by the league. He expects them to just submit it to the commissioner and the matter will be dropped. Of course, this is likely to be a too optimistic view of the issue. Most likely, the issue will be included in his file and it might be used against him if he ever does something controversial in the future.
The Concerns
What made this whole thing a bigger issue is that A-Rod’s suspension could have made a lot of impacts on the odds for sports betting. If he does get suspended – which is unlikely – big money could be lost. On the other hand, A-Rod has been through tougher stuff than this so it’s possible that he’ll only get a light slap on the wrist for this. A-Rod has said that the reports are grossly exaggerated. This was what he had to say about the issue: “I guess that’s just the world we’re in. There’s a moving goal post. Sometimes you just want to say uncle. All the lies, you just can’t put up with that kind of stuff.”
Hopefully, things will work themselves out. A bigger issue here is why people make so much of a fuzz when it comes to poker. Americans have been playing the game for years – centuries, even. It has become an important part of American culture, and it’s really surprising why everybody’s trying to fight it.
