With the landscape of online poker turned 360 over the Black Friday incident, it’s really no surprise that some poker pros have changed alliances in order to survive. Michael “the Grinder” Mizrachi is a prime example. He used to be a Full Tilt pro but now, it was just revealed that he switched alliances yet again, this time with Breeders’ Cup.
Cards and Horses
Before anyone asks: No, Breeders’ cup isn’t a new poker tournament that we haven’t yet heard of. It’s actually a 2-day horseracing event which will be held this November at Churchill Downs. It might be weird to think of Mizrachi actually representing a completely different sport, but if you actually look at it, you’ll see that poker and horse racing have quite a bit in common. For one thing, they both involve gambling. The same people who love poker are prone to love horse racing as well. The Breeders’ Cup hopes to encourage this cross-over by enlisting Michael Mizrachi’s help. After all, Mizrachi is something of a prodigy in poker. He’s the youngest in the all time money list and he’s one of the most well-known poker pros in the decade. He’s also an avid horse racing fan so the role of bridge between the two sports comes naturally to him.
About the Breeders’ Cup
While it’s particularly odd seeing him ally himself with yet another sponsor, especially after all the chaos that ensued during the Full Tilt and Deliverance Poker debacle last year, it still can’t be denied that he’s one of the most watched poker professionals to date. Indeed, for us poker fans, Michael Mizrachi needs no introduction. It’s the Breeders’ Cup that most of us are unfamiliar with. Breeders’ Cup is actually a huge event in the world of horse racing. Those who know the sport are likely to know this event well. One of its biggest lures is its $160 million in liquidity that players can enjoy during the two-day event. It’s a huge chance to win huge money – which is basically the same thing that poker players want. This is a big opportunity for the tournament to snag more participants, especially since players were left without a big source of money after the Black Friday incident, what with even those outside the united States finding themselves in precarious positions due to closed down sites like FTP.
