Maxim Lykov, a Russian poker superstar, has just been announced as the newest member of Team PokerStars. He’s going to join the ranks of Daniel Negreanu and Jason Mercier in the team that represents the biggest online poker network in the world.
About Maxim Lykov
Being good at math and having excellent analytical skills must account for something in the game of poker. If that’s the case, then we might have a bit of a clue on why Maxim Lykov makes such a good poker pro. A former engineering student in Russia, Lykov started with two deposits of $40 on the PokerStars site and went on to build millions on it. He started playing in 2005 and has since then been tearing up the felt. He is said to be one of the highest-earning live tournament players from Russia of all time. He has won quite a number of live tournaments, the majority of those titles brought down just on 2009 alone. He won the Red Sea Poker Cup early in 2009, then he followed it up with a third place finish at the $5,000 No Limit Hold’em Shootout in the WSOP just a month later.
Afer that, he won the EPT Main Event in Kiev, then went on to win a preliminary event at the PokerStar’s Caribbean Adventure in January 2010. Last month, he won the Partouche Poker Tour. Right now, his winnings amount to nearly a million dollars in earnings and that’s in about a year alone. If that’s not a huge accomplishment, then I don’t know what is. If he achieved that much in just a little more than a year, what do you think Lykov can achieve in a lifetime? It was a very smart move then that PokerStars went to sign him early on.
PokerStars Welcomes Lykov
As you well know, PokerStars is the biggest poker network in the world. It has the most number of players and has one of the best rosters of poker pros, rivaled only by Full Tilt. Lykov now joins the ranks of Daniel Negreanu, Chris Moneymaker, Joe Hachem, Joe Cada, Tom McEvoy, and more. He got a pretty warm welcome from the team and they are no doubt thrilled to have him. He plays at PokerStars under the name Maxim Lykov so feel free to head on over there if you ever want to see him play. This guy will go far, people, mark my word for it.
