Normally, insulting the people of a whole state would warrant much rage and indignation. However, when the one speaking is Mike “The Mouth” Matusow, name calling becomes commonplace, and people should no longer be surprised. The most recent comment from his acerbic tongue that managed to draw the attention of people was when he called the poker players of Florida ‘terrible’ during his seminar.
The License to Mouth off
When you’ve gotten at a point in your career where everyone unanimously agrees about your greatness, then yes, you’ve more or less earned the license to mouth off. This is why people hardly bat an eyelash anymore when Mike “The Mouth” Matusow hurls insult after insult at their poker skills. Matusow is widely hailed as one of the best poker instructors and those who learn from him really do learn how to play well, never mind their bleeding ears and lacerated egos. This time, Matusow found himself in South Florida, hostng a Deepstack Live Seminar on Poker at the Isle Casino and Racing, which is located in Pompano Beach. Apparently, the sun and sand did nothing to curb this guy’s sarcasm, and he hardly hesitated when he said, “In Florida, you’re dealing with a lot of raw players, and they’re terrible.”
His claim was not unfounded, though, and he even stated some examples, like some hands that pros would choose not to play but typical Florida player would, to drive the point home. Of course, the people did not take offense. After all, they gave close to $500 just so they could hear Matusow speak. Taking offense at such a comment would ultimately make them the losers. However, Matusow isn’t the only pro involved in the seminar. Hayden Fortini, poker pro who is actually from Florida and managed to make a fortune online, will also be speaking.
Florida Players
However, let it not be said that Florida players are ‘terrible’ and leave it at that. In their defense, Florida law has been pretty tight on gambling until recently, with the no-limit poker games suddenly becoming legalized. Florida players can now play on tournaments and games with buy-ins of more than $100, giving them ample opportunity for practice on high stakes poker. And furthermore, it seems as if the climate for Poker and gambling in general in the state of Florida is continuously getting better. Already, the big wigs of the industry are eyeing the state for possible expansion.
