Maria Ho, one of the most popular poker pros in the industry, not just for her talent in game but also for her participation in the Amazing Race along with Tiffany Michelle, has just signed with UB.com, marking a pretty important milestone in her career. In fact, she is already scheduled to appear at the North American Poker Tour in Los Angeles as a newly inducted UB Pro.
Joining UB
UB has grown so much in the past years, even undergoing a major overhaul in its image to make it a lot more appealing to fans. One of the most notable additions to Team UB was Joe Sebok, poker’s resident good guy, who not only helped in ironing out the wrinkles in the biggest issue that UB faced but also helped increase the number of interesting promotions in the site. Annie Duke, one of the best female players and a very active woman in events and fundraisers, is also a member of Team UB. Let’s not forget Phil Hellmuth who, despite his reputation as the Poker Brat, has actually won the most number of WSOP Bracelets in the world. Maria Ho will now be joining the ranks of these elite poker players. “With the new direction and vision I know UB has for their future, this is an extremely exciting time to become a part of such an amazing team”, says Maria Ho. Indeed, this is probably one of the best career moves for Ho, who has $360,000 worth of career winnings and is a strong supporter of ladies who play poker.
Ladies Events
Speaking of Ladies Events, Ho was involved in a little controversy including a comment about women being afraid of playing poker with men. As you probably already know, the presence of Ladies Events has been debated over time and again, with many questioning its necessity. Ho supported these events by saying that it’s nice that there is a place where women can play poker comfortably and not be afraid before they jump into the felt along with everyone else. “There is still a lot of protocol that players are kind of expected to know from the beginning, such as how to bet, when to bet, and what you can and cannot say. If a woman sits down and is immediately thrust into that atmosphere, she may not have a good experience and may never come back.”
She follows this up with a statement saying that there is absolutely nothing wrong with “providing women an arena to compete amongst themselves until they are comfortable enough to jump in with the rest of the poker community.”
