Daniel ‘Jungleman12’ Cates has expressed his frustration over the now stagnant ‘Durrrr’ Challenge. He’s currently up by about $700,000 and obviously at a big advantage, but it seems as if Dwan has either lost interest in it or is simply stalling. It’s up to you to decide what you want to believe, but before you do, hear the whole story first.
The (Long) Story
The first durrrr Challenge, the one between Tom Dwan and Patrik Antonius, has long been put on hold. There’s no official statement about the challenge being dead, but it might as well be for its extreme inactivity. People’s interest have also dwindled as time went on and the challenge became too predictable and its updates too few and far between. People’s interest was sparked, however, when Dwan announced the start of a second challenge, this time with Daniel “Jungleman12” Cates. They played for a couple of days, got a couple of thousand hands in, and then stopped – abruptly. Unlike in the first challenge where Dwan was up by more than 2 million, this time, he was down by 700,000.
Cates, of course, was eager to move on with the challenge, but it seems as if Dwan isn’t interested in it. Win or lose, Dwan doesn’t have the drive to push on with any of his two challenges. Cates has even said that he has tried ‘everything’ to get the challenge to resume, but he has had no success whatsoever. Dwan said that he was ‘too busy’ to play online in his blog, but he does promise that a game will be held soon.
More interested in Macau
Some people think that Dwan is stalling because he’s losing. Then again, it doesn’t make sense that he’s stalling in his challenge with Antonius too, because he’s winning big time there. Recent news, however, has shown that perhaps he really is busy. He’s primarily a cash player, and the big cash games in Macau with some Chinese businessmen have apparently caught Dwan’s fancy. Dwan has reportedly won $500,000 in Macau, which is quite a sizeable amount. In fact, it’s a bigger amount than most prizes in some of the major tournaments. Phil Ivey’s in on these games too, and he has reportedly won $2 million. Stakes have risen to over $5 million too.
Either way, no matter what Dwan’s real reason for putting the games on hold is, it doesn’t seem pretty nice of him to keep Cates waiting. You can watch the durrrr challenge live at Full Tilt Poker.
