Poker is said to be a predominantly male game, so it’s always refreshing to watch a Ladies Event such as the PCA Luxury Ladies Event. 96 women signed up for the tournament, among them some pretty famous pros like Vicky Coren, Kathy Liebert, and Kathy Hong. However, the limelight wasn’t on them but on Kristin Bihr. Bihr managed to blaze through the ranks and come out on top, beating Lauren Kling at Heads Up for the grand prize of $29,798.
Taking the Limelight
Kristin Bihr’s name is one you’d often see in poker articles, but not necessarily in the story itself. You see, Kristin Bihr is a poker writer. She writes about poker for a living – but this time, all her knowledge really paid off, albeit in a different way. Bihr was one of the eight ladies who managed to make it into the final table. The others were Lauren Fallia, Kathy Jamison, Ricki Lake, Deb Quailey, Victoria Lucenkova, Vicky Coren, and Lauren Kling. Perhaps the most noticeable name in this roster is Vicky Coren, a member of Team PokerStars. Coren managed to make it into third place. But ultimately, it was Kling and Bihr who would battle it out on the heads up portion of the tournament. At first, it was Bihr who had a shorter stack. But she steadily chipped away at Kling’s until a particularly pivotal hand which pretty much crippled Kling.
From that point on, Bihr became even more aggressive. Having few options, Kling pushed all in with a pair of 8’s. Unbeknownst to her, Bihr had an impressive pair of Queens. It all came apart for Kling then, and Bihr was crowned as the champion of the Luxury Ladies Event.
On Winning
Bihr, of course, was pretty happy about her win. She said, “I’m a poor poker writer, so this kind of money really means a lot to me.” and indeed, it’s already a pretty sizeable amount, all things considered.
All the ladies, however, were winners. The PCA Luxury Ladies Poker Event was received pretty well by the players. A lot of women found the atmosphere during the tournament particularly ‘fun and exciting’ and a lot of them will be coming back next year for the same thing. There’s a sort of camaraderie among women, after all, and there’s no better place to experience it than at a women’s tournament.
