More than 700 players turned up for the PokerStars North American Poker Tour’s stop at Los Angeles, each hoping to win the circuit’s finale. But only one would make it to the very top, and this year, it was Joe Tehan who would claim this prestige. With his efforts, Tehan managed to make himself $725,000 richer and gained a nice new WPT title.
The Final Table
A lot of people were actually watching the NAPT because of the highly star-studded final table. The presence of UB’s Michael Binger and PokerStars’ Jason Mercier really drew a lot of crowds. However, these two were not fated to last long in the final table. They weren’t the first ones to go, as it was Jake Toole who suffered that ignominy, but Mercier did follow Toole’s departure about an hour and a half later. Michael Binger followed Mercier soon after. All three were eliminated by Tehan, but it was as if this pro was on fire. After eliminating the first three players, he went on to eliminate both Anh Van Nguyen and Ray Henson in a three-way deadlock. Then, it was Al Grimes’ turn to fall at the hands of the fearsome Tehan when the river failed to give him a lifeline.
Finally, it was time for heads up, with Tehan holding a pretty impressive 5:2 chip lead against Chris DeMaci. DeMaci was actually the leader going into the final table as he has a pretty impressive run before then. De Maci’s run ended when he raised all in on a K-3-5 board. His hand was K-4, so he had top pair. However, Tehan had a slightly better hand, a K-10 which managed to hold up nicely throughout the turn and the river.

An Outstanding Run
Indeed, Tehan practically ran over everyone in the final table. This outstanding performance did not go unnoticed either. When asked about his run, Tehan happily said that he ran “really, really good” and that he simply won most of the 50-50 hands. He’s really happy with his achievement and is now much, much richer. This is a very good step forward in his career, considering that his last big cash was at the WPT Mandalay Bay Poker Championship four years ago where he managed to win a million dollars. This is such a wonderful comeback too. After all, how many winners can successfully say that they eliminated all seven of their final table opponents?
