Joe Sebok, poker’s resident good guy, is once again doing his part to help raise money for charity. He’s going to rappel down the Masquerade Tower, about 51 stories high, in order to raise at least $1,000 for the Special Olympics in Nevada.
Wow’ing the Fans
You might remember Sebok for being one of the biggest ‘good guys’ in poker, always out there doing something good for society, giving poker a good name, and ‘giving back’. True to his form, Sebok is once again doing something in the name of charity, and that’s rappelling down the Masquerade Tower. With only a rope as his friend, he’s going to skivvy his way down the 51-story building – that’s over 500 feet – in the hopes of earning at least $1,000 for charity. But hey, we all know how generous the poker community can get with their money. Chances are, at the end of the day, we won’t just have $1,000 dollars but more than that. In fact, as of now, he Sebok has already gained $165 more than his target, and he hasn’t even tied the rope around his waist yet. You can add to this amount by visiting his website.
It’s going to be for an excellent cause, and even a measly $5 will no doubt be appreciated. Celebs such as Annie Duke, Eric Baldwin, and more, have already given their contributions.
A Scary Task
It’s a pretty scary task, when it all comes down to it. Few people in the world would do something insane like this, and though Sebok has already been known to be a fan of everything extreme, such as bungee jumping and skydiving, he has confessed that he’s “afraid of heights” so he’s a little bit nervous. Then again, let’s not forget his ‘leap of faith’ promotion wherein the winner of the tournament got to skydive with him. It was a UB promotion which had a $2,000 prizepool and was absolutely free, so that makes it about twice as awesome as the regular freeroll. But he has admitted that doing stunts such as this one and bungee jumping are much scarier than skydiving to him.
You’ve got to admit, though, a guy who doesn’t think twice about doing something he’s afraid of in order to help people is someone you’ve got to admire. Indeed, it’s going to be fun watching him rappel down the huge building, but please, it’s for a good cause anyway, so don’t forget to donate a few bucks to have the right to watch and gape.
