It’s almost been a year since Isildur1 appeared on the scene and rocked the online poker world, fearlessly taking on such cash game giants as Patrik Antonius, Tom ‘durrrr’ Dwan and Phil Ivey and all the while maintaining his anonymity. It’s been half a year since he was made the victim of a scandal that forced him to stay away from the online poker scene for a while. But now it seems as if the dark horse, Isildur1 is back in Full Tilt, a timely return that followed ‘his’ deep run in the WSOPE Main Event.
Viktor Blom is Isildur1
Speculation about who Isildur1 really is has been wildly rampant since he first appeared on Full Tilt last November 2009. People were fishing out names that have long been forgotten, even coming to such absurd conclusions as the CIA or Osama Bin Laden. Then it was revealed that he could be Viktor Blom, a young Swedish player from a town called Uddevalla. Since the only confirmed fact about Isildur1 was that he was a Swede, it quickly became obvious that Blom was the one behind the mysterious persona. He was nominated in the Scandinavian Poker Awards for the Rookie of the Year title last 2008 and even won almost $1.5 million in just a matter of two weeks in Ipoker.
Since his success, he seemed to have migrated to Full Tilt, and from there I trust that you already know the story. If not, then let me tell you a shortened version of it: He crushes Tom Dwan, loses against Ivey, and loses the biggest pot ever in online poker history to Patrik Antonius. All in all, he had an excellent run, but then it all came to a stop when Brian Townsend and Brian Hastings, along with Cole South, were caught cheating against Isildur1. They were involved in data mining and caused Isildur1 to lose all the money that he had won off the other pros. He stayed away from Full Tilt after that and it seemed as if he wouldn’t return. He eventually did earlier this year though, but it wasn’t consistent. Now, it seems like he’s back for good, though playing at considerably lower rates.
Guess who’s back
Viktor Blom headlined the news articles earlier this month because of his deep run at the WSOPE Main Event, though he ultimately fell short of making the final table. Now it seems as if he’s putting all that money he won to good use by playing at Full Tilt Poker. He has had two back-to-back sessions, one on September 30 and another on October 1 and has won over $50,000 during the said time. Again, he’s playing No Limit Hold’em and PLO. His return has already stirred the poker forums, with many hoping that he will be taking on the big boys once again.
