One of the best poker shows in TV is getting ready for its seventh season this month. GSN has just flashed the ‘Go’ sign at High Stakes Poker to start the shooting for the new season, with Gabe Kaplan and Kara Scott returning as host and co-host.
The Seventh Season
High Stakes Poker is one of the most celebrated TV shows in poker. Rarely do fans get a chance to watch the big pros this closely. The show also offers the perfect blend of entertainment and education. Fans learn from the pros, and at the same time are wowed by the amount of money that’s being shoved back and forth by the sharks. Just the fact that High Stakes Poker has made it to its seventh season is proof enough of how good it really is. Filming will begin this November 18 to 20, and the show is expected to air at February 14. However, this is just a tentative date based on the Season 6 schedule. Also, it’s expected to run from February to the first half of May, so we have lots of time to enjoy watching the high stakes games.
All-Star Cast
As always, High Stakes Poker will be featuring an all-star cast. A GSN representative said that there would be “another great cast of world-class players this year.” Of course, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out who the ones appearing will be. You can expect to see the regulars at the high stakes tables to be there, such as Patrik Antonius and Tom Dwan. Of course, who can forget Phil Ivey and Daniel Negreanu? There’s also the revered Godfather of Poker, Doyle Brunson. Other players expected to make an appearance include Eli Elezra and Barry Greenstein, as well as Antonio Esfandiari. The action might be made even hotter by the presence of Phil Hellmuth, whose comments will no doubt cause some sparks in the felt. Fans haven’t forgotten Hellmuth’s vow to take on Ivey in a 1 – 2 million cash game.
Still, what’s sad is that there will be lesser prop bets this season. They started to lessen the amount of prop bets in Season 6, thinking that it takes the focus away from the actual game. I, on the other hand, think that prop bets made the whole thing more interesting. Then again, that’s just me.
