Gus Hansen’s Lucky Streak Continues

Gus Hansen is fresh off another substantial win on Full Tilt poker, this time beating Scott “URnotINdanger2” Palmer for $361,000. The two of them were playing $500/$1000 Cap PLO games. Hansen then proceeded to battle another player, NoParasan, earning himself $76,000.

A Four-leaf Clover

What is it with Gus Hansen and his unbelievable winning streak this year? It’s as if he owns a whole crate of four leaf clovers and rabbit’s feet. Did he sell his soul to Lady Luck? Either way, just call it one of life’s big mysteries. 2011 has been a huge year for Hansen with huge highs punctuated by some small losses. This week started off particularly shaky for the Great Dane as he encountered a challenge in O Fortuna PLS. He actually lost more than $500,000 to that player. But then he turned it all around and quickly won all his losses back. Now, Hansen’s up by more than $3.5 million, and the year hasn’t even reached its halfway point yet. If this kind of luck continues, who knows what we’ll see from the Great Dane. He’s certain to be one of the biggest newsmakers in the poker industry this year.

Other Online Players

Of course, Hansen’s not the only one tearing up the highstakes tables. Phil “OMGClayAiken” Glafond won $84,000 and Also11 won $114,000. Isaac “philivey2694” Haxton WON $118,000 over at PokerStars. Most of this money Haxton won was actually from Daniel Negreanu. Negreanu’s currently gearing up to fight against Viktor “Isildur1” at the SuperStar Showdown, so it makes perfect sense for him to pick a fight against Haxton, who is the only one who managed to beat the online phenom at the showdown. Unfortunately for Negreanu, he may be an extremely talented live poker player, but he’s no match against Haxton’s online prowess. Things look grim for Negreanu on the SuperStar showdown as well, but only because it’s not his expertise.

Still, anything could happen. Another online phenom, XWINK, who was up until recently tearing down the high stakes tables, is also suffering from a bit of a slump. It looks as if the predictions about him ultimately going broke with his hyper aggressive style have finally come true. He’s further down the pits now after losing $79,000 within just 35 hands.

Indeed, the highs and lows of online poker are certainly interesting to watch out for. Gus Hansen’s lucky streak certainly is fascinating. One can’t help but wonder how long he can keep it up.
