GUKPT Coventry Main Event Concluded – Julian Thew Triumphs

As the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour main event has recently been concluded and it was the now 44 year old poker player Julian Thew who ended up as the event’s champion in the end. This is without a doubt one of his best birthdays yet. Julian Thew already has a number of achievements in the world of live tournament gaming, during September 2007 in Plymouth and during 2008 in Brighton. Of course, this year, he was up against Richard Trigg, who held the lead in chip count for days.

Trigg’s Steady Lead

Richard Trigg really did well in the earlier parts of the main event, having already taken a total of more than 150k chips after day 1 has ended. Trigg managed to hold on to his strong position throughout the remaining days of the GUKPT main event up until the final day. Trigg’s most impressive lead was at the end of day 2 where he was able to hoard more than 630k chips, which was even more than twice the stacks of the second and third players in regards to chip count. Julian Thew however, was on 24th at the end of day 1, but eventually managed to come on sixth when the final table started.

The Final Table and the Heads Up

Julian Thew managed to eliminate a total of three players during the final table, including Steve Brown, Adriano Luzzi and Stuart Rutter. Of course, long time chip leader Richard Trigg was also able to eliminate Carl Spicer as well. The remarkable thing about the heads up play is that Thew managed to take down Trigg fairly quickly. Whether if it’s because of his birthday or not, he just did it and Thew will have a pretty grand celebration for his birthday.
