Things are not looking too well for Phil Ivey, who was once considered as one of the best poker players in the world, as he slips away from the top 300 players based on the Global Poker Index. The Partouche Poker Tour was responsible for granting a number of players access to the top 300 and has even given other players already in the ranks to gain more points.
Phil Ivey
Phil Ivey is a very prominent face in the poker industry, having won over $13 million in his career playing at live tournaments. Ivey also has a collection of eight WSOP bracelets overall, a World Poker Tour title, and has managed to get into nine different final tables during the WPT as well. Phil Ivey has done pretty well overall, but he has not produced some pretty good results since the December of 2010 and has not gained enough Global Poker Index points to maintain his spot in the top 300 poker players on live tournaments. Phil Ivey hasn’t done much due to his inactivity in these tournaments, and inactivity is no excuse to remain at the top ranks. Ivey needs to show more activity if he plans on getting back at the top 300 player rankings.
The GPI
Global Poker Index is a system that ranks the top 300 live tournament poker players all over the world. The Global Poker Index, or GPI, is calculated based on the performance of the players over the past few years. Players receive a set amount of points every time they perform well in live tournaments, like making it to the final table, or ranking high by the end of the tournament.
The Ranking Players
Erik Seidel sits at the top with 2604.55 points as Jason Mercier is close by with his 2584.98 GPI points which is only 20 points apart. On third is Eugene Katchalov with 2505.06 points. Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier is on fourth with his flat 2486 GPI points. 32 points apart from ElkY is Sorel Mizzi, with 2348.58 in fifth. Fabrice “Fabsoul” Soulier sits on sixth with 2234.25 points as Thomas Marchese sits on seventh place with 2146.22. On eighth is Scot Seiver with 2056.29 GPI points. From eleventh position is Juha Helppi, who now sits on ninth with 2004.50, replacing Daniel Negreanu who now sits on eleventh. And on tenth place is Shawn Buchanan with 1986.96 points. There were also new players to enter the top 300 including Oleskii Kovalchuk, Matt Giannetti, Ilan Bouhenah, Simon Ravnsbaek, Matt Perrins, Mustapha Kanit, Jonathan Karamilikis, and Sebastian Ruthenberg.
