Pokerstars may be the biggest poker site in the net, but Full Tilt definitely has the biggest high stakes players. These two sites have long had a rivalry over who really gets the top spot, and each one has its own merits. This unofficial rivalry has once again reared its ugly head in the issue of Full Tilt pros playing at High Stakes Poker. As a result, HSP will never quite be the same again.
The Story
Pokerstars happens to be the site that sponsors this year’s new season of High Stakes Poker, a TV show wherein we fans can get a glimpse on the exclusive world of the biggest names in the industry – it’s a show that can’t be complete without the names of Dwan, Antonius, and Ivey in its cast. After all, these three are practically the biggest names in high stakes cash games. But therein lay a big conflict: the ‘Big Three’ of cash games are all Full Tilt pros. Deciding to skimp on their roster of talents and deprive PokerStars of the publicity brought about by the said pros, Full Tilt decided to prohibit their pros from playing at the PokerStars sponsored TV show.
If you’ve been watching HSP for quite a while now, you might be wondering what the hell it is that changed that caused Full Tilt to come to such a decision. Well, the story is simple: PokerStars managed to become the primary sponsor of HSP. Concerned that Pokerstars will unjustly use and benefit from the names of Full Tilt Pros, Full Tilt decided to keep them on a leash. Full Tilt is concerned that fans may be confused as to which network their pros really represent, especially since the PokerStars logo abounds in the show, what with their being the primary sponsor.
Some Competition
Of course, with the exclusion of Full Tilt pros from the said TV show, the show’s appeal to fans has greatly dropped. PokerStars might decide to fix this issue by sending in their newest, and probably the most talked about Pokrstars pro, Isildur1. But all in all, PokerAfter Dark is threatening to surpass HSP if the situation for High Stakes Poker does not improve considerably. Hopefully, the poker rooms can get into an agreement so that the quality of this season’s HSP won’t be dampened. PokerStars and Full Tilt seem to need to be reminded of an elementary saying: Sharing is Caring.
