As days go by, FairPlayUSA is becoming more and more established as its roster seems to be constantly growing. Recently, former Federal Bureau of Investigation director Louis Freeh has joined FairPlayUSA’s board of advisors, further strengthening the coalition. FairPlayUSA is now composed of law enforcement officials, consumer protection experts, prominent poker players, and various companies in the commercial gaming industries.
About FairPlayUSA
If you’re left in the dark in terms of what FairPlayUSA is all about, it’s basically a coalition that aims to educate policy makers and consumers in regards to the regulation of online poker and how it would protect them in turn. The coalition is being led by attorney Parry Aftab, who is one of the most active advocates in the matter of issues on the internet. Over the months it already gained the membership of quite a number of influential people including Tom Ridge, who is the former Pennsylvania governor and first Secretary of Homeland Security. Greg Raymer, former World Champion in poker together with one of the most respected names in the industry, WTP commentator and hall of famer Mike Sexton joined to coalition as well. The coalition also gained the favor of Caesars Entertainment and MGM Resorts International as backers. These two organizations are partly responsible for the World Series of Poker, which is the most prestigious poker event in the world. With these prominent names joining the ranks of FairPlayUSA, there is no doubt that its credibility is strengthened overall.
Louis Freeh
Freeh joined the BFI as an agent back in 1975, working assignments at the headquarters and was later on transferred to its New York City Field Division. Later in 1981, he joined the US Attorney’s Office in the Southerd District of New York as an Assistant US Attorney. With the recent addition of Louis Freeh, you really can’t deny that the future of online poker in the US is starting to brighten up a bit. Freeh joined the coalition as he believes that the US law enforcement agencies need clarification in regards to online laws. “Current federal laws fail to provide US law enforcement vital tools to address illegal internet gambling, enabling a ‘wild west’ atmosphere” Freeh also added that “I am joining FairPlayUSA to improve this environment by clarifying these laws, better empowering law enforcement agencies to crack down on violators and using licensing and regulation to ensure safe and legal online poker.
