The Epic Poker League is still fairly new in the industry, which managed to attract a total of only 97 players in the second series. It has not taken long for the league to be surrounded in controversies as things started out right after the first ever main event ended.
Chino Rheem
First, there was Chino Rheem, who was the winner of the first series of the Epic Poker League main event. Rheem apparently borrowed money for poker gaming often and has not paid the debts as of yet. Rheem, was still permitted to play at the second series of the Epic Poker League, under probation.
Michael DiVita
It was not long until yet another issue started to cloud over the Epic Poker League. During its second ever main event, it was found out that player Michael DiVita was a registered sex offender. This was immediately brought to the attention of Epic Poker League and have decided to withdraw DiVita from the tournament.
The Lawsuit
The issue today is that Michael DiVita, who won a seat to the $20,000 main event via qualifying for it through the $1,500 Pro/Am tournament held, and was reportedly banned from the tournament says that he will sue Epic Poker League for its actions. Other players at first were wondering whether DiVita voluntarily withdrew from the tournament, but it was later on revealed that he actually did, but he thought that the Epic Poker League was refunding him of his $20,000 worth of seat for the main event. Turns out, DiVita was only give the $1,500 back, so he told EPL that he would still be playing and EPL’s response to this is that they wouldn’t let him. DiVita mentioned that he will file a lawsuit against Epic Poker League if it does not pay him the remaining $18,500 which he rightfully earned through winning the qualification tournament.
Boycotts
Things keep getting worse for Epic Poker League as a number of players have decided to boycott the next Epic Poker League events due to its poor handling of its code of ethics. Things wouldn’t be surprising if there will be even less than 97 players that will participate on the next Epic Poker League main event. Well, if the Epic Poker League is going to take a look on the bright side of things from these events, it certainly is getting a lot of publicity from them.
