Almost all of the biggest pros in the poker world must be quaking in their boots right now as Dwan gets closer and closer to a WSOP bracelet. It’s day two of Event No. 55, the $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Championship, and Dwan holds the leads by a wide margin, with over 1 million chips in his possession. If he manages to hold on to this lead by the end of the final day and make it straight to first place, he’s going to make a huge portion of the poker pro populace considerably poorer and himself much – very much – richer.
The Story
With all the buzz that went on in the poker world the first time Dwan got close to bracelet in this year’s WSOP, it’s almost impossible that some people still don’t know about the story behind this. But, for the sake of the uninformed, let me reiterate. Tom “durrrr” Dwan is widely considered as one of the best poker pros in the world. However, he has yet to win a single WSOP bracelet. Oh sure, he’s still very young, but then again, with his status in the poker industry as one of the biggest cash players, it’s rather weird that he has yet to win the proverbial holy grail of the poker world.
That, along with the fact that he’s pretty chummy with most of the big wigs in the industry, was enough to earn him several side bets – so many, in fact, that should he win a bracelet this year, it will almost be as if he has won the main event itself. The players who bet against him stand to lose millions and millions of dollars, so all of them breathed a huge sigh of relief when Dwan fell at second place the first time. Now, however, it seems as if they’ll have to start praying again as Dwan draws close to yet another final table and – possibly – the WSOP bracelet.
The Action
Dwan was actually in the twenty-first place when they entered Day 2 of the tournament. However, all throughout the game, his performance was simply stellar. He began a steady rise in the leader board, ruthlessly chopping down all resistance that he came across. His luck was almost devilish, winning almost every large pot, especially when he won a pretty significant hand against Alessio Isaia at the 7th level. Indeed, he got through Day 2 with a magnificent lead. But it’ll be much tougher for him to hold on to that lead at the final day, especially when he’s up against tough opponents like Phil Hellmuth, Jason Mercier, and David Ulliot. You guys should stay tuned for the results of this event, as they might just rock the whole industry.
