The durrrr Challenge is one of the things that, despite its sporadic updates, still manage to cause a stir in the virtual world of poker, no matter how minimal. It was phenomenal when it first came out, and everybody was talking about it, but after more than a year of not completing the challenge, people started getting bored with it. Another development, however, has pushed it back into the limelight. The appearance of Jungleman12 and a conversation in Full Tilt has stirred the interest of people, though many remain skeptical.
The durrrr Challenge
Perhaps it’s necessary to discuss what the durrrr Challenge is first for the sake of those fans who have just recently joined and don’t really know the story behind it. Basically, this is a challenge wherein the opponent has three to one odds against Tom Dwan. The opponent will contribute $500,000 and then he and Dwan would play 50,000 hands. Once they’re done, whoever is up by even just one dollar will be declared the winner. If he wins, Dwan will get $500,000. If the opponent wins, well, he’ll get a nifty $1,500,000. Why would Dwan want to issue a challenge that’s so much to his disadvantage, you ask? Simple – it’s the thrill in it, the prestige. He’s going out of his way to prove that he’s the best at what he does.
The only problem is, he doesn’t seem so determined to do it. Antonius and Dwan have been going at it for quite a while now and they have yet to finish. They’re currently at 39,436 hands out of the 50,000 so, if they really do sit down and focus on it for a change, they’re sure to finish it soon. But that’s a big ‘IF’, all things considered. Dwan has a $2,000,000 lead as of today, so if he wins this and holds on to his lead, he’ll have a pretty hefty profit of $2.5million, maybe more.
Enter Jungleman12
Brian Townsend was supposed to be the next challenger, but it appears as if Daniel ‘Jungleman12’ Cates will move in on his spot. Dwan, however, has said that he can do two at once so it’s no issue. Cates has already sent his $500,000 to Ivey who will be the escrow for the second challenge. Things are getting pretty heated up even if the challenge hasn’t even started yet, with Dwan and Cates “discussing” the details of the challenge. The challenge is set to begin this week. Cates is ready and is waiting for Dwan to start.
