Jonathan Duhamel, 2010’s biggest success story and winner of the WSOP Main Event, has just joined Team PokerStars Pro and now stands alongside some of the biggest pros like Negreanu, Rousso, and Greenstein. He’s the first new member of Team PokerStars since Viktor Blom a.k.a. Isildur1, and if these two are any indication, then PokerStars is certainly upping the ante in terms of making their team a huge powerhouse.
Duhamel’s Story
Jonathan Duhamel had perhaps the biggest poker success story in 2010. He actually started out with a couple of cashes at the WSOP this year. Other people would take the money and go home, but not Duhamel. He actually took that money and invested it on a seat at the Main Event — and what an investment it turned out to be. Beating the gargantuan field and hurling himself through the ranks, Duhamel made it straight to the very top, defeating John Racener at heads up to become the champion. He ended up winning the 2010 main event, practically turning himself into something of a “hero” to the people in his home country of Canada, despite his vehement pleas for them not to do so.
Of course, as with Joe Cada before him, winning the Main Event was Duhamel’s springboard into a high profile poker career and like Joe Cada, Duhamel also ended up joining PokerStars.
Duhamel and PokerStars
So, now that Duhamel’s a Pokerstars pro, what are we to expect? Well, the obvious answer would be more exposure. Duhamel is actually playing at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure. He’s not doing too well, however, and went bust at the $100,000 Super High Roller Event. As a PokerStars pro, he’ll be promoting the Ultimate Home Game along with Daniel Negreanu. This is PokerStars’ newest and most revolutionary feature, which adds a whole new dimension to the game. There’s also going to be a promotion wherein a lucky player who uses the new feature and starts his own club will be given a chance to travel to Austria, Buenos Aires, Macau, or Vancouver. Once there, he’ll battle it out against a PokerStars Pro of his choice.
The player will be using PokerStars’ cash at this little battle, so it’s going to be a huge prize if he does win against the pro. Of course, there’s also the prestige that comes along with beating a PokerStars Pro, especially 2010’s champ.
