It’s the pinnacle of a poker player’s career to be inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame, there to join the ranks of the game’s legends such as Doyle Brunson, Chip Reese, Phil Hellmuth, and Mike Sexton. This year, there were two who managed to make the cut. Dan Harrington and Erik Seidel, both lauded for their numerous achievements and contributions in the industry, will be inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame as the only two members of Batch 2010 on November 8.
About Harrington and Seidel
The merits of these players have been discussed time and again, but it never hurts to point them out just one more time. Well then, let’s start with Dan Harington. Dan Harrington is probably most famous for his back to back runs in the Main Events of the WSOP 2003 and 2004 and his subsequent victory in 2005. This guy has been where no other player has been before. Few players are as consistent as Dan Harrington. He’s practically a mainstay at the leader board during the WSOP Main Events. All in all, Dan Harrington has managed to make it into the final table of the WSOP Main Event four times in his whole career. To top it all off, Dan Harington has authored some of the best instructional poker books, particularly the Harrington on Hold’em Series and the Harington on Cash Games Series. Anybody who wants to play the game may want to start by getting tips from this talented pro.
Next is Erik Seidel who has managed to win an impressive eight WSOP Bracelets, including one WPT Title. All in all, Erik Seidel has eighty money finishes in the WSOP and has managed to make it in the final table of the WPT tournaments three times. He has over $4 million in career earnings and is a Full Tilt pro.
Those who didn’t make the cut
Of course, there are still those who hadn’t been able to make the cut. Chris Ferguson, Barry Greenstein, Jennifer Harman, Scotty Nguyen, Phil Ivey, Linda Johnson, Daniel Negreanu, and Tom McEvoy were all bypassed this year. Of course, they shouldn’t be too disappointed because some of them are sure to be inducted into the Hall of Fame at some point in the future. Daniel Negreanu and Phil Ivey are particularly noteworthy, as they only need to add on a few years to their age in order to be qualified for the Hall of Fame.
For now, though, it’s Harrington’s and Seidel’s time to celebrate, and Seidel couldn’t have said it better when he said “I have such a high regard for the many members of the Poker HoF that I have played with over the years, and it’s a real privilege to be able to join them.”
