Casinos are places where people’s emotions tend to go to the extremes. They can either be ecstatic because they won big, or they can feel as if the whole world is on their shoulders because they just lost an inordinate amount of money. It’s those at the lower end of the spectrum who can be dangerous. They can either go home quietly and sulk – the preferable alternative – or they can get a gun and shoot someone. Of course, the latter is rather rare, but that’s not to say it never happens.
An Unfortunate Incident
Just last summer, there was an incident involving a casino patron shooting one of the casino’s employees, Ray Kot. The shot proved to be fatal, leaving Kot’s son, Drew, orphaned, and his wife widowed. Of course, aside from the pain and grief of losing a loved one, Ray’s family was also left without financial support. Drew is currently in danger of not being able to go to college, and all because one casino patron could not control his temper.
A Noble Response
Nothing can be done to undo the incidents, but there are certainly several things that can be done to ease the burden of the Kot Family. The Trump Taj Mahal stepped up to the plate in an attempt to at least ensure that Drew will not be deprived of a bright future. They will be hosting a poker tournament on Sunday in honor of Kot. This will be the first of a series of annual tournaments dedicated to him and his family. The buy-in for the said tournament is only $25, and all the money collected will go to a fund for Drew’s college scholarship. There are several 10-player satellite tournaments that will be held throughout the week to ensure that many will be able to enter. The actual size of the field will be decided based on how quickly the satellites are filled. Furthermore, players have big prizes to win fromt his event. The first placer will win a trip to the Super Bowl. The second placer will win a large flat-screen TV, and the third placer will win a Superbowl Party at the Taj itself.
Let it never be said that the poker community does not give to the community. This is a plea to all those in the area of the Taj to come and offer their support.
