When T.J. Cloutier’s WSOP Bracelet appeared on eBay, the poker world was abuzz with speculation. Why would he sell it? How could he sell it? Is the bracelet even authentic? Apparently so, as it was sold the moment the bidding ended. To whom? Nobody knew… until now, that is. Cake Poker just recently made an announcement that they were the ones who bought T.J. Cloutier’s WSOP Bracelet.
What’s the Story Behind it?
At first, it was all just speculation. Whether or not Cake Poker really bought the bracelet was anyone’s guess. But Jake St. Pierre, one of Cake Poker’s Bloggers, made a comment that made the site truly suspect. He said, “who knew there were so many wonderful things on eBay? The team members here at Cake Poker only recently caught on to all the marvelous items on sale, including: electronics, bracelets, CDs, bracelets, cars, pet supplies, bracelets, and all kinds of exciting memorabilia.” Really, the overuse of the word ‘bracelets’ was a dead giveaway. They confirmed it officially soon after, saying that the bracelet was an important piece of poker history and that, since they love poker, they should buy it. In the end, they won the bidding and bought the bracelet for a little over $4,000. It’s ironic, considering that the money Cloutier won for that bracelet was 165 times larger. Rob Pizzo, host of Hardcore Poker Show, called Cloutier and inquired about the bracelet. Cloutier confirmed that the bracelet was his, that he was short on cash when he pawned it, and that he tried to get it back but couldn’t do so in time. Cloutier also mentioned that he ‘didn’t want to talk about it’ and declined the chance to come on the air. Indeed, this sort of confirmed the rumors about T.J. Cloutier being in a financial muddle right now. Despite the fact that he won more than $10 million by playing poker, it is said that Cloutier lost even more than that by playing Craps.
What do they Plan to do with it?
Don’t feel sad for Cloutier just yet, though. The guys at Cake Poker are hardly evil. They said that their conscience wouldn’t allow them to keep the bracelet from the man who rightfully won it. They’re going to return the bracelet eventually – after having some fun with it, that is. Apparently, they’re going to do a bunch of photo shoots and they’re going to wear it to a buddy’s home game, among other things. As of yet, the bracelet still isn’t in their possession, but is already on its way.
