If you guys can still recall, Doyle Brunson held a competition at the WSOP for four poker players, each of them vying for a spot in the esteemed Brunson 10. They would collect points throughout the WSOP by winning money at the WSOP, and whoever had the highest points would be the seventh Brunson 10 member.
The four players who competed for the honor of being Doyle’s newest protégé were David “Doc Sands” Sands, Faraz “The_Toilet” Jaka, Michael “martin23” Martin, and Dan “djk123” Kelly. The players earned points for every bit of cash they made in the WSOP tournaments. All four of them are extremely talented and it was a pretty close fight through and through. I can bet that Brunson wanted to keep all of them in the end. However, a winner has to be decided – such is simply the order of things, especially in a competitive world like the poker industry.
As it was, the lead between these four players was passed on between one another throughout the tournament. At first, it was The_Toilet in the lead. But Doc Sands wrested it from him. However, when djk123 won the $25,000 Six-Handed No Limit Hold’em, he promptly took hold of the lead. Kelly was immediately welcomed into the Brunson10 after that, making him the 6th member. Sands, Jaka, and Martin were then left to fight over the spot. However, in the very end, it was Sands who came out on top, though Jaka was never far behind. Jaka earned $113,646 and Sands earned $88,000.
You might be thinking that Jaka should have won if that was the case, but according to Doyle Brunson’s special point system which took into account the size of the field as well as the prize pool of tournaments, it was Sands who won.
The Brunson Ten
Now, with Kelly and Sands joining the Brunson 10, the group has almost reached its completion. There are eight members all in all, namely Zacharay “CrazyZachary” Clark, Amit, “amak316” Makhija, Dani “Ansky” Stern, Chris “Moorman1” Moorman, Alex “AJKHoosier1” Kamberis, and Steve “Gboro780” Gross, and of course, Dan “djk123” Kelly, and David “Doc Sands” Sands. Also, while the four competitors were battling it out, the Brunson 10 were having pretty good runs at the WSOP too, bringing further honor to their group and to their mentor, Doyle Brunson. There are still two more spots to be decided, and already speculation has started on who will be joining.
