It was a well anticipated event in the UK as poker players were given the chance to be voted upon by their fans and not the media. This is a great way to see who the people think are deserving of the titles to be given out by the British Poker Awards.
Best International Player
The Best International Player went to Jason Mercier, who has performed impressively well during the past years. Mercier is even dubbed as the best live poker tournament player based on his Global Poker Index score.
Best Tournament Player
The Best Tournament Player goes to Jake Cody for his Triple Crown achievement. The interesting thing about it is that this is but the first of Cody’s two awards this year.
Best Cash Player
The Best Cash Player award goes to Sam Tricket who has recently generated a nice $2.9 million in Australia. Sam is indeed one of the best cash players around the UK.
Best Pot Limit Omaha Player
The Best Pot Limit Omaha Player award goes to JP Kelly. Although Kelly wasn’t exactly exposed much in Omaha games, the people believe he deserves the title. The ongoing WCOOP will give Kelly the chance to prove them right.
Best Mixed Game Player
The Best Mixed Game Player award goes to Richard Ashby. This is a tricky bit as the player should be a master of all the variations of poker, or at least most of it. Ashby has proven to be a very competent player in the different variation by placing in different tournaments including a 7 card stud, Omaha Hi/Lo and 2-7 Lowball Championship at the 2010 WSOP. Ashby even finished first in the Aussie Millions 8 Game, which proves the point.
Best Online Player
The Best Online Player award goes to Chris Moorman. There wasn’t exactly a real competition in this award as Moorman’s online performance over the past years was exemplary and has managed to make around $7.3 million.
Player of the Year
The Player of the Year award goes to Jake Cody. The award was chosen by a panel of judges and this is the second award Cody received this year. This award supported the votes of the people on Jake Cody being the Best Tournament Player in the UK.
There were also a number of additional awards given out such as the Best Poker Forum, the Best Blogger, and a few more. Visit the British Poker Awards’ main site to find out more.
