Black Friday Redux: DOJ Targets Other Poker Sites

Recent development has proven that the US Department of Justice isn’t just out for the heads of PokerStars, Full Tilt, and the Cereus Network. Now, other poker rooms are being targeted, among them BetEd and BMX Entertainment.

Part Two of Black Friday

The Black Friday incident was pretty devastating for the online poker industry. However, it was also a pretty big opportunity for smaller sites to move into premium territory. However, other sites also decided to cut their losses and get out of the US DOJ’s way before they too get burned. But now it really seems as if the DOJ is relentless in their quest to deliver “justice” to these poker sites. They have just seized not just three but ten domains. These include Bookmaker.com, Funtimebingo.com, Truepoker.com, Doylesroom.com, Beted.com, Betehorse.com, Betgrandesports.com, Goldenarchcasino.com, Trupoker.com, and 2Betsdi.com. They have also decided to freeze 11 bank accounts that are located in Guam, Panama, Portugal, and the Netherlands. Like the previous cases, the owners of these sites were charged with conducting an illegal gambling business as well as money laundering.

A Vendetta

What exactly does the government aim to do with their cruel actions towards these online gambling sites? Well, aside from monetary gain and putting these ‘lawbreakers’ in their proper places, people are also speculating that getting rid of the Big Three poker sites was a protectionist action aimed at helping the big land based casinos in the country. But now that they’ve cracked down on the smaller sites, it really seems like the DOJ is serious about what they’re doing. These poker sites now have to make the same deals as the big three did with the DOJ, or else they’ll have huge trouble in facilitating payments. If Full Tilt is already having trouble, imagine how the smaller sites would be like. Players in the poker sites mentioned who have invested quite a bit of money on their accounts must be feeling extremely worried now that their poker sites have been targeted by the government.

It seems unlikely that they’ll be able to process the payments quickly like PokerStars was able to do. Indeed, it’s going to be quite a bumpy ride for anyone who plays at the said poker sites. The attack on the big three seems to have only just been the beginning of the government’s vendetta against the industry of online poker.
