The WPT Legends of Poker was one of the most highly anticipated events in the poker industry this year, so all eyes were on the said tournament as it rolled into its last and final day. It was Andy Frankenberger who entered the final table as the chip leader and, remarkably, he did an excellent job of holding on to his lead. In the end, he won a whopping $750,000 and the prestigious title of WPT champion. He also won a WPT championship bracelet as well as a trophy of Wild Bill Hickok.
The Final Table
As is characteristic of the WPT, there were six people who managed to make it through to the final table. However, as is characteristic of all final tables, there always has to be a first casualty. The unfortunate soul was Franco Brunetti, who fell against Kyle Wilson. Next one to go was Jared Jaffee , though it’s not exactly a big loss because Jaffee has already managed to make it into two final tables in this season. Following him closely was Tom Braband, who also fell to Wilson, same as the first two pros who were eliminated. By this time, Wilson was doing scarily well. With only three left, Andy Frankenberger actually had the shortest stack and he seemed in real danger of getting eliminated. But lady luck smiled at him and he managed to eliminate Tom Lee in third place. He earned quite a bit of chips with that round, especially since he made Wilson fold in the process.
Heads up
When Wilson and Frankenberger entered into heads up, the latter had amassed a 7:2 lead. It was a really huge lead, and really, Wilson couldn’t do much about it. It took only six hands for Frankenberger to overwhelm Wilson. The action ended when Wilson bet all in pre-flop. He held A-3, both diamonds and Frankenberger held A-9, both clubs. There was a 9 that appeared on the flop, giving Frankenberger the advantage. But at that point, Wilson still had hope because he managed to get a flush draw. It really was unfortunate for him that the river and the turn did not cough up a diamond, and he ended up walking away at second place. Frankenberger took home the title as well as the grand prize of $750,000. Wilson didn’t end up empty handed either, having won $370,000 for getting second place.
