With only 57 players remaining at the World Series of Poker, it’s pretty amazing to discover that one couple has made it through together. David Sands, former member of the Brunson 10, and Erika Moutinho have been sweethearts fo five years, and it looks as if they’re cooking up something of a WSOP Main Event romance now that they’ve gone through to the 7th day of play. The possibility of facing each other in a table is pretty huge, considering how small the field is getting now that the determination of the November Niners is drawing near.
Loving the Cards
Erika Moutinho is now the “Last Woman Standing” in the WSOP. Her 56 opponents, if she wants to reach the very top, are all males – and one of those males happens to be David “Doc” Sands. Sands is a poker pro who was singled out by Doyle Brunson as one of the most promising young poker players today. Apparently, he’s also a pretty talented teacher because he’s the one who taught his girlfriend how to play poker, and now they’re both enjoying pretty deep runs on the WSOP Main Event. Cumulatively, they’re likely to have one hell of a payday if they go even further on this year’s Main Event. Currently, Mountinho has a little over 2 million chips while her boyfriend, Sands, has about 2.76 million chips. If they do make it into the Final Table, they’re likely to be the first ever couple to make it into the November Nine Final Table together.
A Lover’s Clash
Of course, there’s a huge possibility that they’re going to be facing each other in one of the tables leading to the final one. In fact, it has already happened at one point. Sands was transferred to Moutinho’s table, much to her surprise. However, they didn’t exactly clash yet and were mostly out of each other’s hair during the duration of the fight. Still, there are lots of opportunities remaining for them to have a stand off. They won’t be seated on the same table once Day 7 begins, but if they go far in the tournament, then they’re bound to meet each other at the felt once more. This year is actually Moutinho’s first WSOP, though not necessarily her first event. She has proven herself to be a very skilled player, and Sands is pretty proud of her.
