PKR
Full Review
More often than not, our reviewers are harder on sites that are newest in the industry, however, PKR came into the game with such a bang, that it was hard not to notice their love of innovation, and the natural desire of the poker site to go beyond what’s already out there and bring something new to the table. This fresh online poker site tends to draw the younger crowd much due to the strong resemblance between PKR poker and video games.
The software is amazing, the VIP scheme is generous, the promotions menu could use some spicing up.
VIP Scheme
PKR’s VIP Scheme is called Club PKR, and their motto is ‘Always up, Never down’. What means is, the VIP ladder at PKR is a one way sort of ladder. You can move up in levels by earning points and playing poker, but you can’t move down the ladder by taking a break, going on vacation, or even, *gasp* spending your time at a competing room.
With Club PKR, the only way to go is up.
Another strong point when it comes to PKR is that you don’t have to be a 400 lb leather assed grinder to feel like a valued member of the club. Even the most casual of poker players can reap rewards from Club PKR.
Some of the prizes and incentives offered to members of Club PKR include:
- Poker Books
- Chips Sets and Other Poker Supplies
- Freeroll Entries (Improved ROI!)
- VIP Access at Live Events
- Stacked Magazine
There are six steps in the Club PKR Ladder:
- Member
- Bronze
- Silver
- Gold
- Platinum
- Diamond
To become a member of the club, make a deposit, and get dealt in! It’s that simple, once you’ve played a hand of poker you’re on your way, and you’re officially a member of Club PKR. After that, you move up the ladder by earning PKR points.
PKR Club Level Points Needed to Achieve
Member* 5,000 to 35,000
Bronze Level 35,001 to 100,000
Silver VIP 100,001 to 500,000
Gold VIP 500,001 to 1,000,000
Platinum VIP 1,000,001 to 2,500,000
Diamond VIP 2 ,500,001+
Every rung on the PKR club ladder offers the player exclusive benefits that weren’t available on the previous rung, for instance even those at the member level are eligible for a PKR newsletter that’s specifically relevant to their level in the club. Other perks include special bonus reload offers, freeroll entries, for instance, there’s a $1k freeroll available for those on the ‘member’ rung of the club ladder on the 3rd Sunday of every month.
Additionally, a $2 tournament is played on the 1st Sunday of the month, Club PKR members will receive an invitation to that event, which includes a padded prize pool featuring an extra $500.
Promotions
PKR continuously offers players money added events, and guaranteed prize pool tournaments as well as ways to win seats in a plethora of live poker events sponsored by by the poker site
Software
PKR is known internationally for their world renowned online poker software. These guys came into a pretty one dimensional industry, and they brought it to life. PKR introduced new and innovative 3D poker, with amazing graphics, and live animations. The software even offers secret smiley’s and emotes that players have to ‘unlock’ or find codes online to use, just like a video game offers cheat codes. Visually PKR is in a league of its own.
Now for every perk, there’s a price, the PKR software package isn’t the smallest available on the internet, though most PC’s can handle the download. If you’re running a dinosaur from the 90′s, well dude, get a real PC, but in the meantime, you’re out of luck man, PKR just isn’t compatible with the Dinosaur era.
There are some other attributes of PKR that can be considered downfalls, depending on your perspective. If you’re a multi-tabling grinder, well PKR only accommodates play at up to 4 tables at any given time, so this particular poker site might not be the choice for you. However, keeping that in mind, let’s visualize all of those cut-throat multi-tablers picking up their toys and playing at PokerStars where they can easily play dozens of tables.
Nice of them to leave wasn’t it? Now that the water’s are considerably less shark infested, imagine the possibilities! Hobbyist poker players are drawn to PKR due to the video game style and feel of the site. Sharks are drawn away from the sites due to the lack of tables they can play at one time. All that’s left are some very savvy and intelligent players, and a whole lot of guys that like video games and emotes .. right?
